WOW! Time definitely flies, especially in the digital space!
It's amazing that a short 6 years ago, Twitter was born. Here's a PIC from March 21, 2006 of the first tweet ever being sent by Jack Dorsey, creator of Twitter.
At first look of the platform by most, it was a response of "what in the world at the @ symbol doing in front of someones name?" or "why are people putting the number sign (# - now widely recognized as a "Twitter Hashtag") before keywords or phrases?"
In our forward thinking opinion, Twitter is hands down the most powerful website on the planet. It's the new telephone, it's how we communicate. It's a perpetual flow of data and conversation. Not to mention a wealth of information.
News breaks on Twitter before traditional news outlets can type the first word of the story, that's powerful, we no longer have to look for news and information, it comes directly to us.
If someone says something negative about your brand on Twitter, you want to know about it, having an active presence on Twitter allows you to play defense and respond accordingly to the situation, not being on Twitter opens you up to negative information about you spreading without you being in the know, that's a scary thought.
The bottom-line?
Make sure your brand is on Twitter ACTIVELY!
It WILL be the difference of whether or not you're in business in 5 years.
